| Q: |
What can you do for fluid on the knee?
|
| A: |
Swelling of the knee, also known as joint effusion, can result from many joint problems and Chiropractic can be helpful for some of those problems. The most common of these problems can include trauma such as sprain/strain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or gout.
We would do an orthopedic exam of the knee and a personal history to determine what the cause of the knee pain is. The two bones in the lower leg many not be lining up with the kneecap. We use a hand held instrument called an Activator to adjust the bones with a measured low force. The hips and feet can affect knee pain so those are also checked and treated if necessary.

|
| Q: |
How many times would I have to come back?
|
| A: |
Chiropractic results vary. Some patients have enjoyed immediate results, while others find their recovery has taken several months or longer. Children often respond very quickly, while adults, especially with long standing spinal problems heal more slowly.
|
| Q: |
Can a disc slip?
|
| A: |
A disc cannot slip because of the way it attaches to the spinal bones above and below it. However, a disc can bulge, herniated, tear, collapse or dry out, which can irritate nearby nerve tissue.
|
| Q: |
Can I adjust myself?
|
| A: |
No. The desire to “crack” or “pop” your neck or back is caused by tension from a fixated or jammed vertebra (one of the spinal bones). This causes another part of the spine to “compensate” by moving too much and popping or clicking a lot. The fixated joint should be adjusted by a chiropractor so the rest of the spinal column will balance and stop being so noisy and movable.
|
| Q: |
How does chiropractic work?
|
| A: |
Chiropractic works because you are a self-regulating, self-healing organism controlled by your nervous system. Every second millions of instructions flow from your brain down through your spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue. From the organs and tissues, signals are sent back to the brain, which confirms your body is working right. Improper position or motion of the moving bones of the spine, which is called a subluxation, can interfere with this vital information between the brain and rest of the body. This can irritate nerves and compromise the function of the affected organs and tissues. Specific spinal adjustments can improve this brain/body communication. Health will often return with improved nervous system control of the body.

| Q: |
What is the education of Chiropractors?
|
| A: |
After completing the same undergraduate study that other doctors get, chiropractic doctors receive still another four years of postgraduate college education. Before practicing, they pass a rigorous National Board Examination and meet stringent licensing requirements. To keep up with the latest research, doctors attend seminars, scientific symposia, and read professional journals.
|
| Q: |
Do chiropractors work well with other medical professionals?
|
| A: |
Our office has an excellent relationship with several medical providers in and beyond the Quad Cities. Examples of these include Neurologists/Neurosurgeons, Orthopedic specialists/surgeons, Radiologists, Family medical providers, Podiatrists, and Physical therapists.
|
| Q: |
Do all chiropractors produce a Snap, Crackle, and Pop sound when they adjust?
|
| A: |
A. No, at our office we utilize the Activator adjusting instrument. By using Activator we can precisely control the speed, force, and direction of adjustive thrusts, so a safe, reliable, and controlled force may be produced. This method does not cause undue strain to patients during the adjustment.
